Teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) has
broadened around the world and involved the speakers from various
countries. The study aimed to explore Students’ Persceptions on
Critical Thinking in Teaching Speaking in SMAN 1 Taman Sidoarjo.
This study used qualitative research. The critical thinking
approach in teaching speaking used as the focus on this study. The
data were taken from the students of SMAN 1 Taman Sidoarjo. The
data were collected by interview, observation, and documents. The
data were analyzed using descriptive analysis.
The result of the study revealed that regarding the students
perception on critical thinking in teaching speaking, the students agreed
that critical thinking is needed in teaching speaking English. The
students felt enthusiastic with the lesson. The students used critical
thinking to do the task from the lesson. The students noticed that
speaking using critical thinking was fun and the students explored more
about the information of the opinion and thoughts. Moreover, speaking
using critical thinking added the students’ insight about the opinion and
thoughts that had become essentially needed in life.
