Abstract

One of the language components that plays an important role in improving four skills in English is vocabulary. Insufficient vocabulary mastery makes it difficult for students to communicate their ideas both orally and in writing. Furthermore, the students have difficulty understanding written and spoken ideas in terms of reading and listening. Because vocabulary is so important, it necessitates a process of teaching and learning using appropriate media that encourages student participation. In this study, researcher used Wattpad as an English medium to enrich students' vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to find out whether the use of Wattpad as an English reading medium could enrich the vocabulary of the students of class X. To achieve the research objectives and obtain a clear and in-depth picture of this research, the research method used was a qualitative method which was limited on descriptive case study with data collection in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject in this study were five students’ of class X-Tari 1 at SMKN 12 Surabaya which were choosen during the observation section. The result of this study was that Wattpad can be used as a reading medium to enrich students' vocabulary. This can also be seen from the test given by the researcher, there are lots of vocabulary that students have never encountered before
