Abstract

Conversational implicature seems to be an everlasting concern in pragmatics for its wide-ranging investigation possibility. This study aims to find out the conversational implicatures between guest and host in Rich Roll podcast Gun Violence in America Episode. This research used descriptive qualitative because the data in this research is transcribed dialogue from YouTube video. The data sources from YouTube podcast by Rich Roll channel, the title is Gun Violence in America. Data collection using documentation technique to make the transcripts of conversation in podcast. And the data is analyzed using reduction and interpreting analysis. All data were collected and analyzed based on theory of conversational implicature for classifying the types of conversational implicatures and Grice (1975) theory of cooperative principles for analyzing maxims violation in the podcast. The result of the study showed there are the data containing the types of conversational implicatures. Generalized conversational Implicature presents the dominant dialogue more than particularized conversational implicatures and the maxim that most often appear is generalized conversational implicature especially in violating of quality maxim. In Addition, the researcher also found the way to identify conversational implicature and the maxim violation by the characteristic of the context.

Implikatur percakapan tampaknya menjadi perhatian abadi dalam pragmatik karena kemungkinan investigasinya yang luas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui implikatur percakapan antara tamu dan pembawa acara dalam podcast Rich Roll Gun Violence in America Episode. Penelitian ini menggunakan deskriptif kualitatif karena data dalam penelitian ini ditranskrip dari video YouTube. Sumber data dari podcast YouTube oleh channel Rich Roll, judulnya adalah Gun Violence in America. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik dokumentasi dengan membuat transkrip percakapan dalam podcast. Dan data dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis reduksi dan interpretasi. Semua data dikumpulkan dan dianalisis berdasarkan teori implikatur percakapan untuk mengklasifikasikan jenis-jenis implikatur percakapan dan teori prinsip kerja sama Grice (1975) untuk menganalisis pelanggaran maksim dalam podcast. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat data yang mengandung jenis-jenis conversational implicatures. Generalized conversational implicature menampilkan dialog yang lebih dominan dibandingkan particularized conversational implicatures dan maksim yang paling sering muncul adalah generalized conversational implicature terutama dalam pelanggaran maksim kualitas. Selain itu, peneliti juga menemukan cara mengidentifikasi implikatur percakapan dan pelanggaran maksim berdasarkan karakteristik konteksnya.
