Abstract
Siswa di jurusan Bahasa Inggris harus menguasai keterampilan berbicara untuk berkomunikasi dengan orang lain. Kelas public speaking adalah tempat untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara di depan umum. Sebagai keterampilan penting, berbicara di depan umum masih dilaporkan sebagai ketakutan umum. Dalam penelitian ini peneliti mengeksplorasi bagaimana persepsi siswa di kelas public speaking. Penelitian ini melibatkan lima mahasiswa sarjana di semester kelima mereka, dan data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara semi-terstruktur, observasi, dan analisis dokumen photovoice. Metode photovoice memungkinkan siswa untuk menyuarakan emosi, keyakinan, dan persepsi mereka di kelas berbicara di depan umum. Temuan penelitian ini mengungkapkan representasi visual dari pengalaman siswa, memberikan wawasan tentang fenomena pengalaman siswa di kelas public speaking. Penelitian ini dirancang untuk pada akhirnya menginformasikan kepada institusi dan dosen tentang bagaimana peserta memandang kelas public speaking. Studi ini memberikan kontribusi yang berharga untuk bidang pendidikan EFL, menyoroti pentingnya mempertimbangkan emosi, keyakinan, dan persepsi siswa dalam lingkungan belajar bahasa.
Students in English Department have to master speaking skill in order to communicate with others. Public speaking class is a place to help students enhance their public speaking skill. As essential skill, public speaking still reportedly as common fear. In this study the researcher explores how students’ perception in public speaking class. The study involved five undergraduate students in their fifth semester, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observations, and photovoice document analysis. The photovoice method allowed students to voice their emotions, beliefs, and perceptions in public speaking class. The findings of the study revealed a visual representation of the students' experiences, providing insights into the phenomenon of students’ experience in public speaking class. This study is designed to ultimately inform the institution and lecturer on how participants viewed public speaking class. This study provides a valuable contribution to the field of EFL education, highlighting the importance of considering students' emotions, beliefs, and perceptions in language learning environments.
