Abstract
Abstract
This research was designed to describe the interpretation of gender role on
children through socialization of androgynous education by career women and matters
related to the processes of establishing and developing androgynous education on
children. The research subject was selected through purposive sampling. The research
location was Surabaya. The technique and procedure of data collection was started by
conducting the measurement of “Bem Sex Role Inventory” (BSRI), continued with
interviews to the selected subject.
Based on the data analysis, it was found out that career women applied
androgynous values to their children in the forms of self-independence, firmness, the
ability in making decision, and train them in order to have leadership skills.
Especially to the female children, the career women enforced in them the high family
value (domestic role) and high value in self-independence, professionalism (public
role). Meanwhile, the male children must learn to respect the women role in the same
way as they respect the men role. The other finding was that career women possessing
these egalitarian values of gender role would grow if their social environment
provided legitimacy, which was strong enough towards egalitarian gender role.
Key words: gender role, interpretation, socialization, androgynous education,
career women.
