Abstract

Nowadays the use of technology media in English language is inevitable including learning vocabulary. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore the students’ perspectives on using the Hello English application in learning English vocabulary. The research design used by the researcher was a qualitative case study. This research took the research subjects of 9th-grade students of SMP PGRI 1 Buduran. For data collection techniques, researcher used interviews, observation, and documents as a way to collect data. The data were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The benefits that students got after using the Hello English app included increasing students’ understanding in using English vocabulary, improving students’ pronunciation of English vocabulary, increasing students’ English vocabulary, and providing fun English learning for students. However, students experienced some challenges, including technical problems starting the app and difficulties utilizing the app’s advanced games. In addition, students were able to solve them with the assistance of others.
