Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan metode Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) dalam meningkatkan komunikasi pada anak autis. Metode penelitian dalam penelitian adalah metode penelitian dengan subyek tunggal (Single Subject Research), dengan desain A-B-A. Single Subject Research adalah penelitian yang dilaksanakan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh dari perlakuan yang diberikan secara berulang-ulang dalam waktu tertentu. Kriteria subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah seorang anak yang mengalami gejala autisme sesuai dengan kriteria diagnostik pada Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder Fifth Edition dan telah didiagnosis oleh psikolog mengalami ASD. Subjek penelitian ini adalah anak kelas IV SDN Krembangan Utara I/56 Surabaya. Pengukuran dilakukan sebagai berikut: pada baseline satu, perlakuan, dan baseline dua. Metode analisis deskriptif kuantitatif digunakan untuk analisis data. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan skor komunikasi subjek meningkat. Kesimpulannya metode Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) dapat meningkatkan komunikasi pada anak autis.

The aim of this research is to determine the effectiveness of using the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) method in improving communication in autistic children. The research method in this research is a research method with a single subject (Single Subject Research), with an A-B-A design. Single Subject Research is research carried out with the aim of finding out the magnitude of the influence of treatment given repeatedly over a certain time. The subject criteria in this study are a child who experiences symptoms of autism according to the diagnostic criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder Fifth Edition and has been diagnosed by a psychologist as having ASD. The subjects of this research were class IV children at SDN Krembangan Utara I/56 Surabaya. Measurements were carried out as follows: at baseline one, treatment, and baseline two. Quantitative descriptive analysis method was used for data analysis. The results of data analysis showed that the subject's communication score increased. In conclusion, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) method can improve communication in autistic children.
